// Featured

Trunk Animation has once again proved it’s skill at producing excellent animation in their new short – Back in the Day directed by Rok Predin.

Enthusiastic animation director, Rok Predin gives us a personal insight into his childhood memories back in the 1980’s when he lived in Slovenia. Rok has managed to cram all his recollections of growing up into one day to provide a charming little short.  Rok has again collaborated with his reliable composer Ivan Arnold, in which their previous work together includes The Chase, Inside and Curiosity Killed the Cat.

Back in the Day boasts simple but brilliant character design in order to achieve a gorgeous visual style. Displaying a nice spectrum of warm hues mixed with a nice combination of pastel coloured textures. Rok’s use of colour grading helps recreate the heart and soul of 1980’s, reinforcing nostalgic feelings to a time of cassette players and Pac-man! Rok also noted…

It was great fun sourcing and modelling all the various elements for the film such as the fashions; toys, cars and architecture of my childhood, this also involved looking at loads of old family photographs which bought back some lovely memories. I was particularly pleased at recreating my beloved radio cassette player!

In addition to this delightful blast to the past, we have also been given an awesome “Making Of” video to see the 8 shot breakdown of this short. This shot breakdown allows us to see just how much emphasis compositing makes upon creating a warm welcoming atmosphere. In addition to that it also allows us to see just how much work Rok has put into creating this short.  You can check out the  video below.

Overall, Rok delivers a lovely short that displays a wonderful visual style and presents a classic look to a memorable decade.
