30th Cartoon Forum Will See 85 Original TV Series Projects Presented

The French pink city of Toulouse will host the upcoming edition of Cartoon Forum, the co-production platform for European animation series that will present 85 original projects from across Europe,from 16-19 September 2019.

For 30 years, Cartoon Forum has continually grown in quality and size, it is now one of the most famous events in the world of animation. This year 24 countries have selected projects. About 1000 sector professionals are expected, they will have the opportunity to discover more than 500 hours of animated series that can boast of unique stories and visual material.

Projects from 24 countries

France leads the line-up by country with 25 projects followed by Belgium with 9 projects, Germany with 7 projects & Ireland with 6 projects. 5 projects will be presented by Denmark, Finland & Spain. Animation production continues to expand across the rest of Europe: the UK, the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Luxembourg, Macedonia & Ukraine.Two Canadian and two Korean projects will be presented as an extension of our collaboration with Canada and South Korea.

As a result of their pitch at Cartoon Springboard, the pitching event for young talents organised by Cartoon, three projects have been mature enough to be selected at Cartoon Forum:

  • “Doppelgänger, Here Comes the Future!” by Amopix (France)
  • “Mousse and Bichon” by Vivement Lundi ! (France)
  • “The Homonobos, The Missed Link” by Des Singes Animés  (France)

Spotlight on Wallonia-Brussels: The Little Giants of Animation

For the fourth year, Cartoon Forum will be putting the spotlight on a region. This year, Wallonia-Brussels will be in the limelight. On the strength of its seven selected projects this year, animation from Wallonia-Brussels will appear as a constant thread throughout Cartoon Forum with presentations of studios from the region during Croissant Shows, dedicated Farewell dinner & Party, … and many more surprises to come!

The seven selected projects are:

  • “Cander & Ladilash” by Waooh!
  • “Crystal Tales” by Squarefish
  • “Juliette & Jules” by Altitude 100 production
  • “Quinquin” by Beluga Jungle
  • “The Great Dreamscape” by Kwassa Films
  • “The Marsupilamis” by Belvision
  • “Toutmosis” by La Belge Prod

Children series represent half of the projects

In line with the growing number of children’s television channels across Europe, half of the projects are aimed at children. Pre-school series represent around a quarter of the projects and less than 10% of the shows are aimed at the upcoming target of young adults and adults.

Cartoon Forum has propelled European animation to the front row

Created in 1990 to boost the co-production and distribution of European animation for TV and new media platforms, Cartoon Forum has built since a true network of transborder cooperation, by restoring confidence in the relationship between producers and broadcasters, and by showing that there is sufficient on offer, of quality, within the European Union. Cartoon Forum has helped 775 animation series obtain financing to the tune of over 2,7 billion euros.
