87th Oscar Nominations Announced

The world’s most talked about award ceremony is back for its 87th year! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have revealed their nominations for this years Oscars. Whilst the talk of the town will be on who wins Best Picture or who has the best dress, we at Skwigly like to turn our attention to some of the least talked about categories – Animation. Whilst it doesn’t quite gather the column inches it deserves the animation categories always prove entertaining in their unpredictability. The Feature award tends to find its way to the most talked about film of the last year and the animated short film is anyone’s guess!

Whilst the awards are not exclusively voted for by peers we’d like to give the animation fans who read Skwigly a chance to vote for a winner in our regular poll.

Here are the Animation and Visual Effects nominations for the Oscars 2015

Animated Feature

In our previous poll you guys voted for Song of the Sea to take away the award with The Lego Movie, The Book of Life, The Boxtrolls and Rocks in My Pocket following in that order. The nominations reveal a very different lineup with The Lego Movie not even getting a mention unless you count a nomination for Best Original Song for “Everything is Awesome”.

Most of the Skwigly readers wanted to see Daisy Jacobs NFTS film The Bigger Picture take away the award, those will be pleased to see it made the list alongside The Dam Keeper which also made it into the Skwigly readers top 5.
