Aardman Co-founders Knighted
Aardman co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton have been knighted in Kings Charles’ birthday honours.
The knighthood marks another significant celebration for the studio behind Morph, Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run as they mark 50 years. Earlier this week it was revealed that the Royal Mint had released a 50p coin featuring some of the studios familiar characters.
Having met at school, Lord and Sproxton established Aardman after receiving a commission from the BBC TV series Vision On in 1972, after a spell producing 2D animated shorts of a clumsy hero named Aardman from their first studio in Malton, North Yorkshire, the pair established Aardman Animations officially in Bristol in 1976.
The studio is responsible for producing some of the UK’s best loved animated characters, spanning across commercials, television series, short films, games, immersive experiences and feature films. In November 2018 Aardman became employee owned to ensure the legacy of the studio would continue after the founders retirement.
Congratulations Sir Peter Lord and Sir David Sproxton from everyone at Skwigly.
