Anima, the Brussels Animation Film Festival, will be totally online and will take place from 12 to 21 February on its new streaming platform Anima Online. In celebration of its 40th edition, the professional meetings of Futuranima will put Belgian animation film and directors in the spotlight.

Despite the current pandemic, the sector is anything but stagnant, especially in Belgium: with an abundant imagination, it continues to animate our world. Futuranima’s rich programme will include two new master classes (a stop motion master class with the famous duo Patar & Aubier, and a screenwriting master class with Xavier Vairé), a Panorama of Belgian Animation Film with Philippe Moins, presentations by Belgian studios and filmmakers, as well as its traditional theme days: Industry Day, Student Day and Multimedia Day.

This special online edition of Futuranima will offer videos on demand on Anima Online, as well as live meetings on Zoom. The Futuranima Pass, now on presale for 15€, will give access to all Futuranima content, both videos and live, from all over the world.

In addition to the professional aspect of the Festival, Anima is keen to serve as a lever for all that Belgian animation has to offer. The team selected 37 of the very best out of the 118 Belgian shorts received this year that are divided into 4 C’est du belge programmes. From major Belgian production studios to films from students, these short films testify to the inventiveness of the sector and stand out due to the Belgianess that is expressed through the daring subjects.

To introduce the long list of short film programmes, three Belgian animation schools (The Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard, La Cambre and the RITCS – Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema & Sound) asked their students to make some video clips for Anima on free or imposed subjects. This resulted in a total of 27 outstanding video clips to discover during the Festival on Anima Online.
