Animation Workshop for Freelance Women – She Drew That – Announce Residency Scheme

// News

She Drew That, the monthly networking event for women, have announced their first residency scheme. In collaboration with Strange Beast, they will be holding a 4 week residency for three female freelance animators wanting to develop their skills as directors.

This residency will surround the creation of a 15-30 second animation. During production, the STRANGE BEAST team will hold lectures, feedback and mentoring sessions to help our residents through each stage of animation, from pitching through to directing sound. On completion of the animation, a leading sound design studio will be engaged to provide the audio accompaniment to each film.

Anna Ginsburg and Hannah Jacobs, two incredible directors, will be leading the weekly lectures during this residency and mentoring residents over the 4 week period; which will be held between 17th August – 11th September 2020.

This residency is a career development program for women and is free to participate in.

We recognise that taking 4 weeks out of freelancing is expensive and that juggling a commitment of this nature alongside paying work would be difficult. We believe the guidance and access to resources provided during this residency as well as the resulting showreel piece will be worth the investment of time.

Criteria

SHE DREW THAT are looking for women who have had at least two years’ work experience in the animation industry and who want to develop their skills and focus their talents to succeed as future directors.

As this will be taking place online, international applications are welcome; although please be aware that lectures will be on U.K time zone and delivered only in English.

Brief

For this residency, you will be required to create a 15 to 30 second sting for SHE DREW THAT under the theme of ‘Distance’. The animation will end with a three second hold on the SHE DREW THAT logo, redesigned in your own style. (For reference, see MTV stings below.)

To Apply

Please send your CV or LinkedIn Profile and a link to your online portfolio, along with a covering letter. In your covering letter, please cover the following:

  • What are you hoping to get from this residency?
  • What are the challenges you currently face in securing work as a director?

Each application must include an initial written concept in response to the brief. Design work is not essential, but if you feel more comfortable communicating with sketches, please do include these.

Please send your application to shedrewthat.animation@gmail.com

Deadline

The deadline for applications is 24th July 2020 – with the successful residents being accounced on 31st July.
