Queerer Than Thou, taken from the multi award winning satirical comedy series Tales from Pussy Willow will be launched during Pride month and available to watch from June 26th. Crowd funded by the fans, it continues with the satire as cultural commentary approach as it comments on the pointless inter-fighting and judgement that can happen within the queer community. It also features vogueing karate and a killer pink feather boa!

Some of the early episodes have now been re-released for watch during the quarantine with favourite characters including The Mansplainer and an orgasmic unicorn.

Animation director Kate Jessop uses real life experiences to create absurd situations, including ‘Smile’, in which male builders become feminist allies, to the press conference in ‘Astronaut’, where the first person to visit Mars is asked if she missed her boyfriend.

Using her trademark technique of combining animated cut outs with live actors filmed against a green screen, Jessop draws us into the fictional town of Pussy Willow to celebrate queer, feminist and absurdist themes. It is a hilarious portrait of contemporary Britain that cuts close to the bone.

The series was selected for the Berlinale Talent Lab for development in the project lab and has subsequently been picked up for production by Hipster Films.

I like writing comedy as a way of processing the world. Although the series is funny, it also addresses serious issues such as misogyny and catcalling. I’d like to think I’m holding a mirror up to society and calling people out. I’m constantly amazed at how many people say ‘This has happened to me!’

– Director, Kate Jessop

Tales From Pussy Willow has picked up distribution deals with REVRY, Twisted Mirror and QueerBee  and has various awards including Best Comedy and LGBTQ series at the London Short Series Festival, Best Low Budget at the London Short Film festival and Best Animation at the Gilbert Baker Film Festival and Womens Worldwide Film Festivals.
