// News

Estonian Film Institute has launched a new website for short films called Estonian Shorts, bringing together some of the best domestic short films from the fields of animated short, live action short and documentary short film.

The website will be presented in English and Estonian as it is aimed at both domestic and international audiences. All films will be available for viewing for free.

Estonian Shorts is the first website built exclusively for short films in Estonia. The goal of the site is to grow viewer awareness about short films and introduce fresh voices of our film landscape. What makes Estonian Shorts different from subscription-based VOD-platforms is its focus on films that have already run their festival and theatrical release course. Short films tend to go largely unnoticed on traditional distribution channels and VOD-giants. Therefore, the aim is to offer an environment where short films can really stand out.

This specific channel will hopefully prove to be a useful tool for embassies but also smaller international film festivals who might be looking for films of recent years or simply wish to get acquainted with filmographies of authors. At the same time, Estonian Shorts serves as a calling card for Estonian authors. Many films that can be found on the website have taken part in international film festivals, such as Sundance, Annecy, Fredrikstad, Ottawa, etc.

Among others, Estonian Shorts showcases the works of both seasoned and young talents, such as award-winning short animations Manivald (Chintis Lundgren), Sounds Good (Sander Joon), and Fatcula (Martinus Klemet) but also short documentaries from authors such as Heilika Pikkov, Taavi Arus, and Nora Särak, to name a few. Live action shorts include They Say Tomatoes Love Rock Music by Janno Jürgens and True, a satirical short from Marta Pulk, the director of a full feature documentary A Year Full of Drama.

In addition, the website will also focus on fresh news regarding short films. For further interest and keeping up to date, one should also consider following @estonianshorts on Instagram. The selection of films on Estonian Shorts page will be expanded constantly.

Estonian Shorts platform is run by Estonian Film Institute.
