Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, will take place from 21 February to 1 March 2020 at Flagey and Cinéma Palace. Within this framework, the days designed for industry professionals and animation students will take place from Monday 24 to Saturday 29 February in studio 1 of Flagey.

Animation has been constantly developing in Belgium and all over the world. The Anima Festival’s mission is to support this development by organizing annual professional meetings, conferences and masterclasses at Futuranima to follow industry technological innovations, welcome great artists and set up co-production forums etc.

Here’s a chronological overview of some of the main names and topics for 2020:
Monday 24 February, Industry Day provides an opportunity for an exceptional meeting with artist and filmmaker Hisko Hulsing, director of the new production model series for Amazon Prime, Undone.

During Student Day, on Tuesday 25 February, you will have the chance to discover a remarkable scriptwriting masterclass with Theodore Ushev, who will be talking about the conception of his latest film and Oscar contender, The Physics of Sorrow. Tickets are already available from our website for this masterclass.

Wednesday 26 will focus on production. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to meet up with the famous Swedish filmmaker Jonas Odell, who will talk about his brand new studio The Chapel Films as part of the general spotlight on Scandinavian countries. The founder of Mélusine Productions, Stéphan Roelants, will be the other big personality of the day.

Thursday 27 February will be entirely devoted to comic strips and their adaptation to animation and other new media platforms.

Heading the bill on Authors’ Day, Friday 28 February will be none other than Mickael Coedel, the animation virtuoso who has worked on many Hollywood super-productions such as Star Wars and Avengers.

You’ll also be able to catch up with all the details of the very ambitious virtual reality trilogy Gloomy Eyes, during the Making of Day, Saturday 29 February.
Other conferences are also planned to complete this selection. Full details of the programme will be revealed on 30 January.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to these special days and would like to wish you all the best for 2020!
