Industry Keynote Speaker Announced for Manchester Animation Festival

The animation keynote is Manchester Animation Festival’s yearly opportunity to hear from a titan of industry.

This year’s speaker will be Charlie Perkins. Charlie is the newly appointed Head of the multi-award-winning Channel 4 Comedy department. She comes from Blink Industries where she was Head of Comedy and a writer and producer on the web and TV series of cult-comedy Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, of which the new series is streaming now on All 4.

Having begun her career working on shows such as Little Britain, French & Saunders, Benidorm and Mock the Week, moving on to become a Producer at the infamous alternative comedy venue The Invisible Dot, BBC Radio Comedy and Cave Bear Productions.

INDUSTRY EXPERTS REVEALED AS JURY MEMBERS

The Jury for the Manchester Animation Festival Feature Film Category includes Kieran Argo (British Animation Awards), Abigail Addison(Producer/Programmer – Animate Projects) and Jo Chalkley (Director – Cosgrove Hall Films, Aardman Animations, and Factory).

The returning Short Film Category Jury will include Hanna Ines Flint (Writer), Ivana Kvesić (Director – Fantoche International Animation Film Festival), and Evgenia Golubeva (Director/Writer/Character Designer – Disney, Sky Kids, Nick Jr, and BBC). Judging the Best Children’s Film Award at MAF 2022 will be a specially formed panel of 9-14 year olds from Into Film’s Youth Advisory Group.

The Jury for the Industry Excellence Awards will feature Alessandro Chirico (Art Director, Production Designer and Visual Development Artists – Jellyfish), Elena Wurlitzer (Development Producer – Jellyfish), Rahul Dasgupta (Senior Storyboard Artist – Blue Zoo Animation) and Steve Kimbrey (Animation Lead – Blue Zoo). INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Manchester Animation Festival is delighted to announce this year’s Industry Excellence Award Nominees across four categories: Character Animation, Character Design, Scriptwriting, and Storyboarding.

In the Character Animation category, the nominees are: Oleksiy Popov for Big Tree City, Jamie Kerr for Botbots, and Arianna Gheller for Hypno Tidoo.

In the Character Design category, the nominees are: Guia Gandi for The Adventures of Paddington, Lorna Bailey for Scream Street, andEvgenia Golubeva for Buster Saves Christmas. 

In the Scriptwriting category, the nominees are: Alan Denton & Greg Hahn for Botbots ‘Crime and Bun-ishment’, Evgenia Golubeva & Myles McLeod for Millie and Lou, and Tiernan Douieb for Hey Duggee ‘The Accessories Badge’.

In the final category, the Storyboarding nominees are: Marie Jo Tucholski for Pip and PosyEstrela Lourenço for Botbots ‘Crime and Bun-ishment’, and Imo Rolfe for Obki Christmas Special.

The winners of the Industry Excellence Awards will be announced on 17th November as part of the MAF 2022 Award Ceremony.

EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD NOMINEE TO HOST MAF AWARD CEREMONY

This year’s awards host has now been confirmed as comedian, actor and writer Amy Gledhill. Amy’s authentic, comic voice won her the prestigious BBC Caroline Aherne Bursary 2019. She has written for CBBC’s, BAFTA award-winning series Class Dismissed as well as being one half of Edinburgh Award nominated / Chortle Award winners – The Delightful Sausage.
