Guru Studio, a global leader in animated storytelling, and UK-based Karrot Entertainment today announced a co-production agreement to develop and produce a new animated preschool series based on Eric Hill’s beloved Spot book series, published by Puffin, part of Penguin Random House Children’s UK.

The 39 x 7-minute series will bring Spot, the lovable, curious and rambunctious puppy, to life for a new generation of preschool audiences. Much like the classic books, the series will follow Spot, his friends, and family as he explores the world around him, turning everyday experiences into playful adventures and lift-the-flap surprises.

Spot first appeared in Eric Hill’s iconic 1980 lift-the-flap book Where’s Spot?, which introduced generations of children to the mischievous puppy. Since then, the Spot series has become a global publishing phenomenon, with more than 65 million books sold worldwide. The books have been translated into more than 60 languages, including braille and sign language, and published in more than 20 formats, including lift-the-flap, board and novelty books. Puffin continues to publish new Spot titles each year.

The franchise has also seen significant recent growth in key international markets. In the UK alone, more than 1 million Spot books have been sold since 2020, more than double the number sold during the previous four years. The series has also experienced strong growth in markets including the US and Australia.

The partnership brings together two animation studios with extensive experience adapting and developing globally recognized children’s brands. Karrot Entertainment is known for its work on the widely popular Peppa Pig, and its acclaimed Sarah & Duck series, as well as adapting literary works such as My Friend Maisy. Guru Studio is the award-winning animation studio behind global hits including PAW Patrol, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, the animated Sesame Street spin-off Mecha Builders, as well as its own literary adaptation of the beloved classic Charlotte’s Web for HBO Max and Sesame Workshop.

Spot has deep roots in the UK, and we really couldn’t imagine a better partner than Karrot to bring this classic to a new generation. We’re excited to combine our studios’ expertise as stewards for beloved characters and brands to create something really special with Spot.

The two studios will unveil brand new material for the Spot series at this year’s MIPCOM, where they will showcase a proof of concept to buyers from around the world.

The FUN WITH SPOT™ consumer products and licensing program, including toys, apparel and live experiences, is managed in-house by Penguin Ventures and, together with Puffin, supports the continued global growth of the brand, connecting Spot with family audiences in new and exciting ways.
