Masha and the Bear

Masha and the Bear

Russia’s cinema business is growing three times faster than the real economy, and with a population of 145m people it is becoming a lucrative market. Recent years marked a new record in the contemporary history of Russian film distribution: cinemas were visited by 212.6 million viewers, and Russia became the leading European country for cinema attendance, outstripping France for the first time. Abroad, Russian and Soviet themes and stories have witnessed a great success with the release of TV series like Catherine the Great, Chernobyl, McMafia etc.

The Russian market is both developing as a destination for and as a source of content. For those interested in investments in Russo-British co-production TV projects, distribution of TV and film content and talent scout, the Forum provides a great opportunity for networking”

–  Filip Perkon, RFW Executive Producer

The first day of the forum will be dedicated to the discussions of Russian film industry today. The panellists, including producer Ilya Stewart and director Klim Shipenko, will debate on the current state of film industry in Russia in terms of financing, development and main issues that arise. This will be followed by the discussions of animation and Russian content revolution with guests from tech industries such as Vladimir Nikolaev (Wizart) and Dmitry Loveyko (Masha and the Bear). The first day of the forum will end with the introduction to Russo-British co-production projects and producer David Kelly’s speech. See full list of speakers and schedule here.

The second day will feature film and series pitching. During the first session, 10.40-13.00, Russian and UK filmmakers will present films which are currently in the development to their potential UK partners, while the second session, 14.00-16.20, will feature films which are a work-in-progress (in some cases, materials from these projects will be presented for the very first time). The highlight of the evening would be a presentation of the new film “She has another name” by Svetlana Khodchenkova. The actress is well-known in Russia and abroad, but this time she has taken on the role of a film producer.

RFW Industry Days will provide a unique opportunity to interact with representatives from some of the leading international film organisations, productions companies, casting directors, sales and distribution specialists.
