What is the film about?

Flipped Out is a 2D animated film about an old flip phone who gets replaced by the latest smartphone model. The animation’s hand-drawn style complements the film’s message which is to face inevitable obsolescence with grace and wisdom as you gain self-knowledge.

A little background information...

Every year, there is a new phone with better features and people don’t hesitate to upgrade. They throw away their old phones with a smile on their faces, for the fancy new phone. While it might bring joy to people, how would the old phones feel? We spend most of our days with our phones. We wake up with an alarm on the phone and ends the day with quick glance at social media apps- quite literally, phones are the closest thing to our lives. I wanted to look at this from the old phone’s perspective to depict how we feel when we lose something we hold dear, and how we can move on from it.

How was the film made?

It was animated in Toon Boom Harmony, and composited in After Effects.
