Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Announced

// News

Sonic the Hedgehog is a character that frequently experiences a change of scene, from his early days as a Sega mascot-turned-videogame franchise with several television series and spin-offs. He made the jump from 2D to 3D in 1996 and is now crossing into another dimensional plane.

To the delight (or possibly horror) of Sonic fans everywhere, a live action CGI mixed film has been announced for the little blue hedgehog. Sony Pictures has announced that they will be working with Marza Animation Planet and producer Neal Moritz to create this new addition to the Sonic family. This movie comes at an interesting time when there has already been a redesign of the main cast for an up and coming television series, which has been considered controversial. The creators had to defend the new, but rather un-radical, designs for the series which upset fans for a variety of reasons.

It’s anyone’s guess what the reaction will be when we finally see what the new film will look like. The CG/live action mix can hasn’t had the best press of late, (see the new Michael Bay TMNT films) but it can but used interestingly and effectively when done right. Fingers crossed that Sonic stays closer to Green Hill Zone than the uncanny valley.
