Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, set to take place from 25 February until 6 March, 2022, in Flagey, Palace and on Anima Online, is very proud to open its 41st edition with the Belgian premiere of the film The Summit of the Gods, directed by Patrick Imbert. The official opening of Anima will therefore take place on the big screen, in Studio 4 in Flagey, thanks to recent government announcements, which the Festival is thrilled about.

Based on a true story and adapted from Jiro Taniguchi and Baku Yumemakura’s best-selling manga, The Summit of the Gods takes the audience in a thrilling adventure in breathtaking Himalayan scenery. In official selection at the last edition of Cannes Festival, The Summit of Gods is now in the running for three categories at the 2022 César Awards: Best Animated Film, Best Adaptation and Best Music Written for a Film.

Dominique Seutin, co-director of Anima Festival, is very excited to open the festival with this feature film: « The whole festival team was dazzled from the first viewing of the film. It combines remarkable landscapes and the escape in a spectacular nature, with the subtlety of human relationships; the whole comes with sublime music and an impressive drawing precision. »

Synopsis :
Were George Mallory and Andrew Irvine the first to reach the summit of Everest in 1924? Only the Kodak they used to photograph themselves on the roof of the world holds the secret. Seventy years later, the young Japanese reporter, Fukamachi, thinks he recognizes the camera in the hands of Habu Jôji, a climber thought to have been missing for years.

The 41st Anima Festival will take place from 25 February to 6 March 2022. More information at www.animafestival.be
