Viborg Animation Festival is just around the corner – from September 25th to October 1st 2023 – in collaboration with The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark!

Highlights

  • VAF is proud to present Niki Lindroth von Bahr as VAF Artist of 2023. During the festival you will be able to see a retrospective of her amazing shortfilm, experience an exhibition of some of her filmsets, and of course meet the artist herself.
  • Opening Film: Deep Sea, China, Tian Xiaopeng, 2023. Shenxiu was abandoned by her mother when she was a child. One day, she travels on a cruise ship with her new family, and on a stormy night she falls into the sea and breaks into the magical “Deep Sea” restaurant, an old, transformed submarine. DEEP SEA is the sea of the soul, where painful secrets and beautiful memories are hidden.
  • 5 fantastic features are in competition for VAF Best Feature 2023 and are screened throughout the festival week in Viborg.

  • 8 short film competition categories with more than 100 nominated films. This year for the first time VAF introduces the Diversity Film Award, showcasing stories from underrepresented groups, focusing on issues in minority groups such as sexual orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disabilities, or others.

  • The Animation Showcase will be present during VAF with two special programs, one presenting animated shortfilms eligible for the Academy Awards®, while the second will be focusing on LGBTQ+. The programs are curated by Benoit Berthe Siward, film strategist and founder of ‘The Animation Showcase’ consulting boutique.
  • VAF presents a number of conferences and industry events with lots of interesting guest speakers sheding light on the animation business, applied animation and technology such as Ai and XR.
  • Creative Media Industry Forum – CMIF 2023 will take a look at where we are now and what to expect and how new technology will influence creative choices, mindsets and business models. Meet:
