The award-winning duo The Brothers McLeod have teamed up with composer and sound designer Tom Angell to bring you their new short animation The Inverted Peak.

In an ever more paranoid and suspicious world the film asks the question, ‘Who’s in Control?’

The film was created using a fluid process; the content was created by passing sections back and forth between sound, vision and dialogue. The final film only coalesced in the last couple weeks of production. The process utilised techniques where the control of the film making process was given over to random elements and chance, mixing digital and analogue loops and effects. This meant the filmmakers had to relinquish control to those elements.

Greg used his extensive bank of collected images to randomly select content which he then animated. Myles responded to these images and used a computer algorithm to create the voice. Tom created soundscapes blending an unlikely paring of strange instruments and effects that looped and fed-back on themselves to make rhythmic textures.

The filmmakers say (with tongues fairly in their cheeks):

The Inverted Peak explores the quasi-mysticism of a quest for enlightenment, a desire for transcendence from unseen masters. It examines chance constellations, an automatist spontaneity, an invented space of the unconscious asking the question, who is in control?
