Teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ released
Netflix have today released the first teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion reimagining of Pinocchio, introducing the character of Sebastian J. Cricket as voiced by Ewan McGregor and showcasing the masterful puppetmaking of Mackinnon and Saunders (Corpse Bride). Drawing on the classic Carlo Collodi tale, the musical adventure is set during the rise of Fascism in Mussolini’s Italy and tells “a story of love and disobedience as Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father’s expectations”.
The film is directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) with a script by del Toro, Patrick McHale , Matthew Robbins and Gris Grimly (who also created the original design for the Pinocchio character) and produced by The Jim Henson Company and ShadowMachine in co-production with Necropia Entertainment. Joining McGregor are newcomer Gregory Mann in the titular role of Pinocchio with David Bradley (Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones) as Geppetto. Other cast includes Academy Award® winner Tilda Swinton, Academy Award® winner Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett, John Turturro (The Batman), Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman (Nightmare Alley), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen) and Burn Gorman (Enola Holmes).
Pinocchio is set to be released on Netflix December 2022
